The Rotaract Club of the University of the Philippines Baguio’s (UPB) first environmental project for this year, Rotarun Plogging, where people can jog while picking up litter, was held yesterday, May 20, at the Panagbenga Park.

With the goal of jogging and saving the environment at the same time, ploggers and volunteers participated in Project embRACe: Rotarun Plogging, spearheaded by the Rotaract Club of the University of the Philippines Baguio, in Panagbenga Park on Saturday, May 20. Over 16 sacks of segregated thrash were collected from four areas in Baguio City—Military Cut-off, Loakan, Upper Session Road and South Drive. Photos and caption by Joanna Comia.

Baguio City's commendable efforts in rehabilitating waterways have garnered praise as the blue walk project secured the 6th spot in the Philippine Water Challenge Year 2.

As I strolled through SM Baguio City, I could not help but notice the myriad of Earth Hour posters scattered around the mall.

"Give an Hour for Earth: Earth Hour," they exclaimed, evoking memories of the times my family and I diligently participated in this global event, convinced that it would make a difference in saving our planet

Opinion

For nine consecutive years, the country has been the undisputed deadliest place for environmental defenders and activists in Asia. According to the 2022 report of Global Witness, an international environment watchdog, there were 19 recorded killings of land and environmental defenders in the Philippines for 2021, ranking fourth worldwide.
