Baguio City eyes installation of bicycle lanes

To create a “sustainable, livable, and healthier” Baguio City, the City Engineering Office (CEO) conducted a meeting on May 25 on the planned installation of pedestrian brisk walking and bicycle lanes in various locations around the city.

“By allocating a budget for bike lanes in the upcoming year, we can actively promote active transportation, reduce traffic congestion, and improve public health,” said the CEO in a May 27 Facebook post on the CEO-Planning, Programming and Construction Division page.

The meeting aimed to address issues, propose solutions and assign duties for the project development to assure the creation of a “safe and accessible cycling infrastructure community,” CEO said.

The office also said it deeply supports the proposal and suggests follow-up meetings and a comprehensive plan that considers infrastructure, budgetary considerations, collaboration and ongoing monitoring to ensure the smooth progress and preservation of the bike lanes.

Currently, a feasibility study is in progress. Plans for identifying key areas of expanding and enhancing the overall transportation network are under discussion.

The meeting had 18 attendees: CEO personnel, focal persons from the Bikers Community of Baguio City, the City Planning Development and Sustainability Office (CPDSO) and the Department of Public Works and Highways-Baguio City District Engineering Office (DPWH-BCDEO).
