DENR-CAR addresses water concerns

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Cordillera Administrative Region (DENR-CAR) addressed water concerns during a “#KapihanSaBaguio” session on May 24.

According to “Kapihan para sa kalikasan” panelist and DENR-CAR Regional Executive Director Engr. Ralph Pablo, ensuring water security and resilience in water-stressed areas will resolve water scarcity within the Cordillera.

“Meron tayong scarcity of water already, that’s why, this is one of the priority thrusts of the department, to ensure na mayroon tayong continuous water and sustainable water that we drink and use for other domestic purposes,” said Pablo.

During his discussion on the department’s priorities and directions, he said that concrete measures must be observed now that Baguio has become a highly water-stressed city in the region.

“We must implement an integrated water resource management, improve water resource monitoring and assessment, and we practice the ridge-to-reef approach water management,” he said.

Pablo added that monitoring waterworks will contribute to secure water quality and sustainability.

“Most importantly, the protection of our watersheds, kasi dito nagmumula ‘yung katubigan natin,” he said. “And of course we must clean up our water bodies and water systems to improve water quality.”

“#KapihanSaBaguio” is a panel-led discussion forum conducted by Baguio authorities to address issues concerning the city.

“Kapihan para sa kalikasan” is presented by the Cordillera Association of Regional Executives (CARE) with Baguio Correspondents and Broadcasters Club (BCBC Inc.) and Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) as their partners.
