With the theme “Invest in our Planet,” universities and barangays in Baguio City participated in outreach activities and clean-up drives held in celebration of Earth Day 2023 last April 22.

Students and professors from the University of Baguio (UB) conducted an outreach activity with the theme, "Creating Better Environment and Brighter Tomorrow Through Plogging," at the Burnham Park and Melvin Jones Grandstand, where they gathered more than 10 plastic bags of trash.

“Honestly, it was surprising how much trash we managed to pick up,” UB student Justin Artana said. “It’s one small act that can make or take our community. It’s better late than never in making our world a clean and better place.”

At Luneta Hill, the students of the University of the Cordilleras Integrated School planted at least 100 pine tree seedlings with the assistance of the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO).

Meanwhile, the City Environment and Parks Management Office (CEPMO) said a total of 991 sacks of mixed wastes were collected by 1,507 residents from 66 barangays during a citywide clean-up drive.

“Nag-announce po tayo na may Earth Day clean-up drive,” a personnel from Barangay Loakan Proper said. “Pagdating ng April 22, naghanda ang concerned citizen sa kanilang area, inabisuhan ang mga kapitbahay na apektado rin, nagbayanihan po.”
